I finally got my new camera! I've been playing around with mostly HDR, but I have a lot of unposted stuff I'm still sorting out. Got a Canon Rebel XSi, and I already want more lenses. I'll post mainly to Flickr as keeping all my social networking sites up to date would take waaaay too long. |

| | Minus the Bear - Monkey!!! Knife!!! Fight!!! | ] | I don't know that there are still people here who don't follow me on twitter/facebook/myspace, but if so, I'm still alive. Life at the Complex has been eventful to say the least, and work has been stressful, but things have been fun. Since new years a lot has happened, and I'm not sure I completely understand it all yet :P
Bullet point update!- Started a big project at work, Ruby on Rails, and it's been putting me into overtime a lot, but without school, I've managed fine.
- I got accepted in to SDSU! I start in the Fall, cannot wait to get my schedule together.
- I started homebrewing beer. It's been a lot of fun, and I've got even more roommates in on it. So far brewed: Irish Stout, Hefeweizen, Irish Red, Apfelwein, Octarine Ale (Stone Vertical Epic 8.8.8 Clone), Nuke Ale (New Castle Clone), Mango Tango Ale, Vanilla Stout, and a BrIPA (IPA brewed for my friend Bri's birthday). Here is a calendar with the various steps: The Complex Brewery
- Been out and about a lot more, made a lot of new friends, been having a really good time. Glad to be able to take advantage of this break from school.
- Girls... I don't even know. Don't ask. :P
- Oh! And I built a kegerator for kegging our homebrew, we have the Hefe and the Red on tap currently. So yummy.
I guess that about sums up the last 3 months... with a few skipped details :P We'll see if I go back to writing here. If nothing else, to track various projects?

| DKPy: A Django based Guild Management Web Application |
[Dec. 5th, 2008|02:02 pm] |
Originally published at Occasionally Interesting. Please leave any comments there. I’ve been recently getting back into World of Warcraft (Thank you Nick, my free time will hate you again). But this prospect triggered a much better idea. There’s still no de facto guild management webapp. One that has all the features I suspect one would want. Couple this with the fact that I have struggled to find a good web application project that isn’t YAB (Yet Another Blog), even though I know I need the experience of the process. Thus, DKPy was born, out of professional necessity of experience, and personal interest in the outcome, I hope that these two driving forces will prevent the death that has faced so many of my projects before.
Of course this means less time playing, and more time developing, but honestly, that’s the way it should be. I can’t be sucked back into an MMO at the levels I used to, it’s to draining on my resources and time. So I’ve been brainstorming some features I would like to see make it into DKPy (which sort of stands for Dragons Kill Pythons, a play on Dragon Kill Points, and the fact that it’s written in Python). Here is what I have come up with so far:
- Generic MMORPG support
- Specific game support for features that make sense (WoW, WAR, etc) as plugins.
- One-to-Many mapping of Player to Characters.
- Friend Of The Guild support, in case your DKP system takes that into account, and to track loot.
- Interactive calendar system (With integration into in-game calendars where it applies).
- Customizable loot/DKP system, allowing it to conform to your guild’s rules. For anything more complex, implement as python plugins as well.
- Ability to track equipment per character, allowing for features like “Who needs x item most?”
- Integration with external item databases (Thott, Wowhead, etc).
Any ideas to add to this would be much appreciated.
This project will be managed from http://dev.datamachine.net/redmine/projects/show/dkpy. There’s little there now, but in the next week or two I expect to make some progress. |

Last night, Goka's FIP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_infectious_peritonitis) had got to the point where we were concerned that she would not make it through the night, and we could not let her die that way (suffocation from the fluid in her lungs). So we had to take her to the emergency pet center to have her peacefully put to rest. It was really hard on the whole family, she was in every way a member of our family, and it was truly tragic. I feel especially bad for Kika, who has known Goka her entire life, and is too young to have to face the death of a loved one. She was amazingly strong around Goka, trying not to stress her out too much in her final hours, but seeing her cry was really hard. We stayed with Goka until the end, though I had to leave the room after the shot, I could not be in there for that, I could no have my last memory be of her dead body.
I remember when we first got her, she was pregnant, and after she had the kittens, she used to pick them all up and put them in my bed next to me. Though this scared me, because I did not want to roll on them at night, it was obvious how much Goka trusted me. Every day she used to greet me at the door as loyal as any dog, and she used to pretty much live in my room, on top of anything I'm currently doing, including my monitor, keyboard, or homework. As far as I know, everyone loved Goka, even people who notably disliked cats, loved Goka.
I will miss her greatly, but I am glad that she will have the rest and peace she needs. |

Man, we got 103% in DKC3 in just over 14 hours in game(That's with leaving it on for things like snackfood runs, falling asleep, etc. Not looking anything up on gamefaqs once. I don't think I ever got that far in the game :D
Then, to stave off further boredom, I got Pokemon Snap on Virtual Console, and man, that game is still awesome :D We got pretty far before calling it quits for the night, and I noticed a really cool game design, both coop and competitive at the same time. I'm constantly trying to one up Phillip, but every time one of us does so, the collective game is advanced. Hmmm.....
Fuck my laundry mat, it closes at 9, and I forgot to go pick up my clothes, now I have to go early to go get them from the manager. ~_~ Blah.
Got my PICKit2 starter kit in today, but I was too distracted to mess with it, I need to clean up my room first. |

| | The Faint - Fulcrum And Lever | ] | I had a somewhat of a catchup post plan, but I'm distracted now.
Important previous things: - Got a raise and "promotion", though actually, the PC Support Specialist was dropped from my title, and it's just "Software Engineer" or something like that. Not that names matter, I still do the same things. Embedded programming and python. w00t. Driver release tomorrow, this week has been crazy. Work work work work work. - For the last 6 years of my life, all I have worn are Black Pants and T-Shirts out of work, and Black Pants and Blue Dress Shirts at work. I finally broke stride and got a couple pairs of jeans and some new shirts. This may seem insignificant, but I've been noticing that while I am quite fine with change around me, I'm very resistant to change about myself. Same clothes. Same hair. Same everything. I get comfortable in something I feel like just fits me, and I don't dare break stride. Time to start doing that. Also, size 34/32 fit me now, but 36/32 still is a better fit for now, which is what I was waiting for before buying jeans. - Set a goal for myself to hit 175 by the time school starts. I'm not doing well to that goal, been stuck between 186 and 188. We'll see. - Me and the roommates have been playing Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3. And we're beating every level 100% before moving on to the next, it's been a total blast :D Love retro gaming. Especially when a martini becomes involved :D - Been watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. Just finished Season 1, and man I'm loving this show. Every episode feels like what I loved about my favorite episodes of Stargate. The elements of wonder and mystery, exploring situations with absolutly no idea what is going on. I am starting Season 2 now, and I think I want to edit the rest of the seasons, and remove Riker's beard. And fucking Woopie is on now. D:
Important upcoming things:
- Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies friday after work, gonna head straight from work, so I gotta bring some non-work clothes. I have no one to go with, so I'm gonna have to go make some new friends ;P - The Faint on Saturday! :O Woo, excited! I'm a bit mixed on the new album. It's really good, and I like that it's different, but I can't help compare it to Wet From Birth, and honestly that was a MUCH better album. Fasciinatiion is too short, Psycho and I Treat You Wrong are the same song, and make up 20% of the album (though I love those songs), and there's not as much dancable content. Most of this was my opinion this morning, but as I give each song a chance to appreciate it, I'm like it more and more. - The Mars Volta in October, wooo. - School starts back up at the end of this month, not sure exactly how I feel about this, as I have recent memories of overload, and I will still be working full time. Sorry if I fade into the background again. - I need to start some projects back up. On the ballot is a secret hardware project involving harddrives (some may know what it is already), and the other is YASMB (Yet Another Super Mario Brothers) as the basis for my side scroller engine (you know, the one I start writing every year D:). - I have this sense of something coming, and I can't put my finger on it. Guess we'll see.
Okay, so I did play catchup. And this has distracted me from my distraction. Time for bed. :3 |

Danny gave me two free passes to the San Diego Fair, and Aubrey emailed me back asking if I had any free time to hang out. Hmmmm. Sounds perfect. I think.
As soon as Hellboy is over (I never watched the first one, but the second one looks amazing), I'm heading out to the gym, FINALLY. Christ I need to get back in the habit of going every other day again. I can specifically notice tone loss and probably fat gain with muscle loss, and this is not the direction I want.
So, Diablo III was announced today. Whoopdidoo. >_> |

Went and saw Get Smart with Nicolee, Ant, Sam, and Nick, and I was pleasently surprised that it was really good. It was hillarious, but not stupid (in the way that Will Ferrel movies are, they have their place, but I'm glad this wasn't one of them), and it made a lot of references to the old series, which I loved :D Afterwards we loitered around for an hour at the theater till about 1am, and decided to all chill at my appartment and watch Doctor Who. And it turns out Doctor Who is difficult to follow after two double Gin and Tonics, but I could still make a mean Long Island Iced Tea for Nick. I don't know what to say about that. :P Though a Car Bomb turned out to be too much for my stomach, and I lost it shortly after drinking it, but it was so delicious on the way down :3 But it was one of those really quick vomits where you just feel better afterwards. Last time I threw up from drinking was maybe 4 months ago, and I passed out on a pile of dirty laundry in Phillip's bathroom. Oh the amount of Tequila we consumed that night, and the amount of Optimus Rhyme singing.
Hanging out with Ashleigh later today, but I needs to start working on my Django project. I've been kinda off and on with it. I also have some homework that should be done. I hate how short weekends are. |

So, I bought Metal Gear Solid 4, stole Phillip's PS3, and have been playing that all weekend. On Act 5, so I think I'm VERY close to finishing it, probably will today, then I will do my review of the game.
But I also saw The Incredible Hulk last night. In case you didn't know, it is NOT a sequel to the 2004 movie. It is done by completely different people, in a completely different universe, with nothing from the old one. So it had a chance at being good again... But alas, it was mediocre. Better then the 2004 movie, definitly entertaining, but dissapointing. Everyone was justifying it was "just a setup movie" to get the Hulk in the new universe Marvel Studios is creating (Which I am loving, I'm so excited for this decade of Superhero crossovers), but so was Ironman, and that was an awesome movie. The actors were all great, Norton and Roth were amazing as I expected, but the script was just lackluster and full of poor decisions. I recommend seeing it if you're into the new Marvel movie series, but don't expect too much. Looking forward to Ironman 2 and Thor in 2010, then Captain America and The Avengers in 2011.
Outside this new universe, we have some more upcoming Comic movies :D 2008 we have Dark Knight (asdfjkwherinwdfawuiefh) and a new Punisher movie (never saw the first...). Then in 2009, we have X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men Origins: Magneto, and I expect good things. 2010 for Spiderman 4, which I hope they come back from the horrible Spiderman 3.
Outside Marvel (I know, I already mentioned Batman, but COME ON!) we have... Watchman in 2009! :D Fuck yea. Also in 2009 there's Wonder Woman, which the only redeeming feature to me was that the screenplay was being written by Joss Wheden, but he dropped it, so I have no expectations.
Going to see The Happening today with my family, I'm hopeful about that movie.
Also, I'm gonna go public with non-emo/personal entries I think. I won't fix the old ones, but they are mostly emo anyways.
Back to MGS4! :D |
